Vehicle Reported Stolen

The Vehicle was located in Hays, Kansas. A suspect was apprehended with the vehicle.
On July 23, 2019 a vehicle was reported stolen from the parking lot of Powers United Methodist Church located at the intersection of ILL 145 and Powers Church Road. The vehicle is a 2006 Nissan Altima. The vehicle is a black four door. It has an Illinois registration of V890238.  If you see the stolen vehicle call the Massac County Sheriff's Office at (618)524-2912.

Stolen Vehicle & Meth Found, Woman Arrested

On July 21, 2019 at around 1:30 A.M. a Deputy was on patrol in Joppa. The Deputy observed a suspicious vehicle in the area of Washington Street. 34 year old Ashley Jenkins got out of the vehicle and approached the Deputy. Jenkins was acting distressed and appeared to be under the influence of narcotics. The Deputy checked the vehicle and learned it had been reported stolen out of Iowa. Jenkins was placed under arrest. The Deputy also located several used syringes and a quantity of Methamphetamine. Ashley Jenkins was transported and lodged at the Massac County Detention Center.

Foot Chase Ends with Suspect Captured, Meth Charges

Deputies have recently been looking for 28 year old Gerald Cody Moore, of Joppa, on an outstanding Massac County Warrant. Moore has fled on foot from Deputies several times. During the last foot chase, Moore lost the hat he was wearing. The Deputy kept the hat that was dropped. Moore contacted that Massac County Sheriff's Office asking to get his hat returned. The Deputy kept Moore's hat in her squad car to return to Moore. 

On July 11, 2019 a Deputy was on patrol in Joppa. The Deputy saw Moore walking down the street. Moore took off running from the Deputy. The Deputy chased Moore for several blocks. During the foot chase, Moore dropped a backpack. Moore was eventually located hiding in a shed. Moore was arrested without incident. The Deputy searched the backpack that was dropped and located Meth and Drug Paraphernalia. Moore was lodged at the Massac County Detention Center. The Deputy returned Moore's hat to him.

Arrest Made in Burglary at ROK Bottoms

On July 15, 2019 it was reported to the Massac County Sheriff's Office that a burglary had occurred at the ROK Botoms Bar in Unionville. Deputies reviewed surveillance video and found that two individuals had entered the business after it had closed. The two individuals took an undisclosed amount of cash and left the business. Deputies were able to develop names of the two individuals. Deputies located 22 year old Micah Skidmore of Brookport. Skidmore was arrested and charged with Burglary, Theft, and Criminal Damage to Property. The second suspect was identified as 20 year old Evan Martin. Martin had been arrested by the Paducah Police Department on unrelated charges and is in the McCracken County Jail. Charges were forwarded to the Massac County States Attorney. Further charges and arrests are expected.

Woman Arrested on Meth and Gun Charges

On 05/26/19 at around 12:30 A.M. a Massac County Sheriff's Deputy stopped a vehicle near 5th Street and Main Street in Metropolis. The driver of the vehicle, 43 year old Marie Gullett of Owensboro, KY, had an active Massac County warrant for Failure to Appear on an original charge of Driving While License Suspended. Gullet was arrested on the Massac County warrant. Inside the vehicle Deputies located Methamphetamine, Hypodermic Syringes, Plastic Baggies, a Digital Scale and a Loaded Firearm. Gullet was lodged at the Massac County Detention Center. She was arrested without incident.

Metropolis Man Arrested on Warrant and Meth Charges

On 05/24/2019 at around 4:30 A.M. a Massac County Sheriff's Deputy stopped 26 year old Austin Wilson of Metropolis on 5th Street near Oak Street. Wilson was riding a bicycle in the area. Wilson was arrested on an outstanding warrant from Pulaski County for Failure to Appear on a charge of Aggravated Domestic Battery, Domestic Battery, Battery and Aggravated Assault. The Deputy searched a backpack Wilson was carrying. The Deputy located Hypodermic Syringes containing Meth. The Deputy also located a hatchet tucked inside Wilson's waistband. Wilson was lodged at the Massac County Detention Center. Wilson was arrested without incident.

Two Arrested on Meth Charges

5/23/2019

 
On 05/21/19 a Sheriff's Deputy stopped a vehicle near 10th Street and Vienna Street in Metropolis. The Metropolis Police Department's K9 alerted on the vehicle for the presence of narcotics. The driver of the vehicle, 20 year old Jared Vermast of Belknap, was found to be in possession of Hypodermic Syringes and a powdery controlled substance believed to be Percocet. The passenger, 28 year old Ashleigh Redmond of Joppa, was found to be in possession of Hypodermic Syringes. The Hypodermic Syringes tested positive for Methamphetamine. Vermast and Redmond were arrested and taken to the Massac County Detention Center. While being booked into the Massac County Detention Center, Redmond became combative and attempted to attack Deputies and Corrections Officers as well as Metropolis Police Officers. Both were charged with Possession of Controlled Substance, Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Drug Equipment.

Man Arrested Following Burglary Investigation

In October 2018 Deputies responded to the 2000 block of Mt. Pleasant Rd. for a report of a Burglary. Four firearms were reported stolen during the Burglary. The firearms reported stolen were a Ruger 9mm, a Smith & Wesson 40 caliber pistol, a New England 410 gauge shotgun and a Winchester 20 gauge shotgun. Over the course of the investigation Deputies developed a suspect as 19 year old Corey Atkison of Galatia. In April 2019 Deputies located Corey Atkison in Brookport and questioned him. Corey Atkison was arrested and charged with Burglary and Theft and is currently being held in the Massac County Detention. The firearms stolen were not recovered. Wanted Indiana Man Located in Brookport

On 05/09/19 Deputies received information that a man wanted out of Indiana on Firearm Charges was hiding in Brookport. Deputies obtained information that 31 year old William Fitzpatrick was hiding in a residence in the 300 block of West 3rd Street in Brookport. On 05/10/19 at around 2:30 P.M. Massac County Sheriff's Deputies searched the residence and located Fitzpatrick hiding under a bed. Fitzpatrick was taken into custody without incident. He was booked into the Massac County Detention Center pending extradition back to Indiana. Fitzpatrick was wanted by the Indiana Department of Corrections for Felony Firearm Possession. The Brookport Police Department assisted with the arrest.

Metropolis Woman Arrested on Meth Charges

On 05/08/19 at around 1:00 A.M. a Massac County Sheriff's Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on 5th St. near Filmore St. in Metropolis. The Deputy identified a passenger in the vehicle as 34 year old Ashley Dotson of Metropolis. The Deputy was aware that Dotson had an outstanding Massac County Warrant for Possession of Methamphetamine. During a search, the Deputy located syringes, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Dotson was arrested on the warrant and also charged with Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of a Hypodermic Syringe. Dotson was lodged at the Massac County Detention Center.
