Burglaries Being Investigated

10/22/2019

The Massac County Sheriff's Office has received reports of Burglaries over the past two weeks. There has been a recent rash of Burglaries throughout Massac County.

On October 10, 2019 Deputies responded to the River Bottoms Bar in Unionville. The bar had been broken into the night before. Surveillance footage was obtained that showed a thin white male wearing a face mask use force to enter the bar. The person attempted to disable the video surveillance system. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken. Video surveillance was also obtained from Suds and Duds in Brookport a few nights later. A thin white male wearing a mask attempted to enter the business. No entry was made into the business. The person on camera appears to be the same person who made entry into River Bottoms Bar. A suspect has been identified and Deputies are working to obtain enough evidence for charges.

Reports of a property in the 6800 block of Walnut Ridge Rd. being Burglarized were taken between October 9 and October 14, 2019. It appeared Burglars had been periodically entering a building on the property and stealing items. Some items reported stolen were bikes, kayaks, tools, washer and dryer, furniture, jewelry and a grandfather clock.Residents in the New Columbia area are asked to be aware of any suspicious activity. A small white van was reported to be in the area during one of these burglaries.

On October 12, 2019 a Deputy located a suspicious vehicle on Mt. Sterling Rd. near Unity School Rd. The Deputy questioned the occupants of the vehicle. After making contact with the individuals, the Deputy began to investigate the possibility of a Burglary in the area. The Deputy found a residence in the 2400 block of Bert Medley Rd. that had been burglarized. The Deputy located items nearby that had been taken from the residence and abandoned. Deputies are working, in an attempt, to tie the occupants of the suspicious vehicle to the burglary.

On October 20, 2019 Deputies responded to Burnham's Collision Center located in the 1800 block of East 5th St. in Metropolis to investigate the report of a burglary. It appears that someone entered the business sometime late on Saturday night October 19 and Sunday afternoon on October 20, 2019. The burglar ransacked the business while inside. The burglar damaged a safe kept inside the business. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken. Also taken was a Taurus 9mm pistol. The burglar disabled the video surveillance system by taking the DVR. It appears the burglar was inside the business for a lengthy period of time. Deputies are working with others in the area to obtain video surveillance during the time of the burglary.
